Rumors have swirled for quite some time about who would play the globetrotting treasure hunter, and oddly enough, Vikander's name never came up. So the fact that Vikander is coming into the "Tomb Raider" series as an A-list actress is kind of a big deal. After all, Angelina Jolie did "Gone in 60 Seconds," but she wasn't considered an A-list actress until after she did "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" in 2001. It never occurred to me that the "Tomb Raider" movies could land an actress who owns a golden statue. However, the news came out that WB cast Vikander for Lara Croft, and my heart jumped for joy. Vikander was a pleasant surprise for the role after her name was never mentioned in the pre-casting rumors. announced Thursday that Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander is the new face of the "Tomb Raider" movie franchise, playing the lead character Lara Croft, the fearless adventurer. So I went online in defense of Vikander and for 10 minutes replied to every horrible comment on Facebook with "Why are you mean?" Not one person has replied to those. She won an Academy Award. But Internet trolls are going to say the most awful things they can no matter what. As has become typical of social media, Internet trolls took to Facebook and Twitter to trash Alicia Vikander as not worthy of being Lara Croft in the new "Tomb Raider" movie. ![]()
